Not being from the US, I can't speak for US law but the ToS for this forum clearly states that illegal activities are not to be promoted.
Therefore I would ask that any talk about drugs be put to a stop to prevent Dan being asked tricky questions about the apparent promotion of illegal drug use which may arise on this forum.
The same goes for any discussion on software or music piracy, burglary, murder, rape, assault, or any discussions pertaining to illegal activities in your own country or in the US where this forum is hosted.
Discussions ON the topics are permitted, but promotion of illegal activities is forbidden.

I really don't think this is an issue. Jankin got a little angry, since I made a post he deemed off topic, but it's not like there's some plague of pro-drug posts sweeping over the forums.
The point of a forum is for discussions, often between people of differing opinions. So long as it's on topic (and I'll admit to at least one instance in which I have been guilty of making an off topic comment), I don't see a problem here.
Serious question for you, Shon, and I apologise if this sounds disrespectful-
If you had a telescope through which you could see God, and it was illegal, would this not displease you?
In any case, I'll keep things on topic now lest the wrath of Big Brother be invoked. Sorry, sir.

Seriously though, the moderation of drug promoting posts seems childish and pretty damn unethical as i see it. While I realize you're just coverin tracks for dan or whoever, there are worse forums that don't have problems. (grasscity.com)
actually the grasscity fourms suck but it's obvious what it's about and they get no legal troubles.

Isn't it a little late to raise an issue about what you discuss on these forums? An attempt to crack down on specific topics people discuss is the second biggest waste of time and energy next to Bush's war on terrorism.
Nothing wrong with having concerns, but I sincerely hope you don't plan to force that point of view on the rest of them.
As family-friendly as Dan wants his game and it's forums to be, I think even he has accepted that both attract a different crowd than what was originally intended. I'm sure every one of us has a fresh memory of when threads have gone off the deep end for weeks at a time with no one, not even Dan, stepping in to do something about them. What do you honestly hope to achieve that couldn't be done years ago?

I just noticed that part of your post. It's not illegal to promote the use of drugs. It's just illegal to actually take (edit: in most places, only possess) them. It's pretty far away from illegal to own a forum on which people occasionally speak out against the war on drugs.

Some good responses, again I'm not trying to deliberately obstruct discussion on here but I was merely voicing my concerns in regards to the legal side of things. I just think it is important to be aware of this sort of thing.
I would also like to make my stance on drug use clear - I don't enjoy not having complete control over my mind and I'm not really interested in taking drugs or drinking for this reason and for health reasons. I don't drink alcohol for the sake of getting drunk (see above), but I will occasionally have some rum because I like the taste. I used to smoke, but I quit - for health reasons, of course. And I suppose if I'd kept smoking I'd be wasting more and more money on cigarettes.
The most important factor when it comes to drugs is the effect they have on your health and your social involvement with those around you. There are serious problems in Australia at the moment with Ice users and an increase in violent and pointless crimes and subsequently, expensive rehablitation for these people.
I am aware that not all drugs have this particular affect, but being someone who refuses to take any sort of medication unless absolutely necessary you can see my perspective. I never get sick, by the way.
But this is here so you can understand my stance on the use of any drugs. I'm not trying to preach, I'm just trying to provide a little bit of information and perspective. I do live in the real world, and I do know people who use drugs - I'm not completely sheltered .
Val - If there was a telescope through which I could see God, and it were illegal to look through it, the reason for this (I believe) would be because people cannot see the face of God and live, and this could perhaps be the reason the telescope were illegal.
Or, it could be illegal to continue 'hiding' God from people as an act of helping out the Atheists .

People always get offended when you raise a possible negativity regarding something they feel strongly about.
I read this topic as something to let people know that it might not be legal or within the ToS to promote drug use, so that the people could then choose if they wish to continue it or avoid it for their and Dan's sake (should some legal crap arise).

I find this perposterous, in no way was I promoting the use of drugs when I posted pictures of bongs that I have, which are used for flavoured tobacco and legal drugs. I also find it perposterous that you are trying to limit our right of free speach. I do realize that it might be against the ToS but I can't seem to find a copy of it. But hey, drugs aren't illegal everywhere, why should everybody have to follow your guidelines just because you believe drugs are bad. Oh, by the way, i don't generally take perscription or over the counter drugs either, but there isn't anything wrong with taking them or having a bong.

I just don't think this is the 'right' forum for this sort of discussion. I dunno. It's like if you're sitting in a church, you should probably talk about church-y stuff, even though it's not ILLEGAL to talk about other stuff, it's just... inappropriate.
Of course, sometimes you have to talk about work while out to dinner with the family, but that doesn't mean they want to hear about it.
If one really wanted to soapbox about how the legal system should be different, I bet there are forums where actual legislators (and/or their staffs) are looking for exactly that sort of feedback.
Here, this sort of talk just kind of comes off as an attempt at iconoclasm...ism...ness. "Look at me, I have an outrageous opinion, be shocked! Flame me!"
So, I don't think it's *illegal* (to discuss), just *inappropriate* and falling on *deaf ears* so why bother?
