I've come up with a new world idea that I'd like some feedback on. First some background. I've been helping several people with worlds in the last few months. Because of this, I have several worlds that will never see the light of day installed right now. I also have 3 or 4 fleshed out quests with no where to put them because they don't fit the overall theme of the world I'm working on. So my Idea is to create a world that allows world developers to submit "worldlets". These worldlets would be a few maps and monsters over a range of 20 levels. They would have unique npc's, equipment and monsters. Totally unique from the rest of the world. And players would be allowed to move between these different worldlets freely. For example they could level for a while in a space world and then move to a classical fantasy or even a present day world. This would also give people an opportunity to create smaller themed worlds that don't have enough substance to make up a whole world.
Before I go into any specifics, Who would submit area's for this world. Anybody is welcome to, even if you know nothing about world development. It would give novice world developers a chance to experiment and create without having to complete the devlopment of a world. They could then see how much work it takes to produce a good world without wasteing their time on something that might never be used. It would also give established developers a place to put quests that don't fit into their world. Or they could simply include one or two of their quests as a sort of advertising for new users. Most new users are unlikely to download every world available and try them all out. However they could download this world and get a feel for many of the worlds out there at the moment.
The question is Would anyone be interested in contributing a worldlet?
Now some specifics that I've come up with. None of these are set in stone if they aren't that popular (Assuming anyone wants to participate)
The original world has two maps. One is a basic newbie map that deposits the user at the main map after 20 levels and has basic quests and instructions. Almost an extreme newbie guide. After they are through with this the player can't go back. The main map is simply an island with links to all the different worldlets. Both the newbie map and the main map will be no pk. The developers can specify pk/nonpk for their maps however they like.
Right now there is one class and one element of spells (Healing). Each contributer gets to create a class. This means theres no way any of these will be balanced at all. Assigning the elements is first come first serve on whoever wants to make up spells for them. Although I'll probably limit one element for the first 7 contributers. I have no problem with opposite elements making no sense.
When you decide you want to contribute you pick a range of 20 or 10 character levels. You then get 20 or 10 each of monster Id's, Scene Numbers, and Tokens to do whatever you want with them. Contributers can even chose not to include any monsters and just have quests available. You would get enough Item Id's to sell all the equipment in your character range and 10 extra. I envision something where the equipment used is different depending on the worldlet that your in. For example every class of hand would use a phaser in a star trek based worldlet. So even if the class is a sword user, there would be available a sword class weapon thats a phaser.
This next part is debateble(sp) but No evergreen recycled artwork, monsters or equipment. I'd rather it be a place where people can show off what can be done with the game engine instead of someone taking the lava map, coloring a bunch of Josh's monsters green and adding a ninja class. The contriversial(sp) part is actor skins and equipment artwork. These might be too hard for casual developers to create.
Any commands added to the camp and fight scenes need to use the IF #nn command so they are only operational on your maps.
I'm not sure whether I should name the hand skills things like sword and bows or just use Weapon one, two, etc. The if class command can be used to have several classes share the same hand skill, without using the same equipment.
There are some other minor points also, Universal bank script or just stockmarket, a mandated seed price(1,000,000?)
So would anyone be willing to contribute? any other comments or questions?
