Mad's bug report made me think of something else that might work so I decided to try it. If you create a character, then password protect it, you can't play it or purge it from within WoS without entering the password. But, if you create a character with the same name then say overwrite the current one(that's password protected) then the old one gets deleted, which means an evil sibling could reset your level 100 to level 1. Ah yes, and the password isn't kept on the new char so they can play it as much as they want.
[tip to little brother hackers: It is even EASIER to terrorize your brother just by using Windows Itself to delete files. WoS cannot protect your brother from your evil ways! He can only report you to mom and hope she loves him better. -s]
And sorry for posting again but I have 2 more minor "bugs" to report (well that's not really bugs but...).
1/ The new "Choose your world" screen. There are now 5 names per pages. If the number of worlds on your computer can be divided by 5, then there will be a blank page at the end (I have 35 worlds currently installed and have 8 pages instead of 7; no world appear on the last page).
2/ Trophies can be sold for 0 GP. That would be good if it was changed for the quest trophies, so we won't have player complaining because of the very rare trophies they sold for nothing (well of course they could stil throw them away, but then they are only responsible).

I haven't found any more bugs, unfortunately, but I do have a suggestion. I don't think so, but if this IS the way it already works, please thwack me over the head with a large asteroid.
When you define the bag you're currently giving/selling the player, perhaps you could have an optional bag frame number so that they could upgrade their...
4x1 Puny Bag of Nothingness
...to a nice...
4x3 Medium Bag of Averageness
...so that they can collect all their ingredients to summon the...
4x5 Immensely Magical Bag of Greediness
...and display each image accordingly.
[EDIT] I love MS Paint. [/EDIT]
[EDIT 2] Ooh, and I don't suppose there could ever be a @rightClickedOnTrophyX? [/EDIT 2]
[BTW, this is not implemented in A87, but it is still a nice idea, -s]

I didn't know where to post this: in the general beta topic, here, or in a "Please help, Dan" topic (ALL CAPS to make sure you pay attention). But the fact is I do play in a87 and that it never happened before. So I post it here to know if some a87ers had the same problem.
Problem: I play a world and decide to play another one. When I try to incarnate in the second world (most of the time, but not all the time) I get the mooder warning box. If I restart WoS and directly select the same world then I can play.
[which modder warning is it? -s]
[Sorry I haven't seen your question before - that's the "Warning As it is a modded world, your char will be marked as a modder; are you sure you want to continue?" message - Mad]
posted
Is that what causes it? I keep getting the modder warning in Demonica though, after the first time I play it. I wonder if restarting WoS would work.
I have discovered that the world appears to be modded if it is created in A87 and played in A86. Dunno why, but it works perfectly if played in A87. I guess the problem will go away when everyone is upgraded to A87?

I play in a87 only and never went back to a86. If my prob is really a87-related then I'm affraid that it wouldn't go away.

They do not work with the FIGHT * trick. If you write : FIGHT *.#<coordX>.#<coordY>, then the monster will not show up at all.
[FIGHT * actually adds multiple monsters (potentially), so I didn't bother to try to give you a way to set their starting positions. In theory, I could let you set the starting "center of mass" of the monster cluster. In theory. -s]
EDIT - However no prob with FIGHT -NN.#<cordX>.#<ccordY> nor FIGHT2 nn.#<cordX>.#<ccordY>
EDIT 2 - You can't make a monster arrive on the right side of the screen with something like : FIGHT N.120.90 : the monster will start fighting before he gets actually visible, he doesn't wait to be IN the actual scene to attack.
[heh, so my code which delays first attack is apparently left side biased... sorry.. This needs to go in the dev notes topic now so I don't forget about it. Sorry I missed it. -s]

Mad, re: The Above, does your release of a87 have this feature or is it something Dan has said he is adding to the mix?

Have you changed something to the paralize disease? I mean: have you accepted the request: "can't run if paralized"?
I had to alt-ctrl-del WoS because I was trapped in a FIGHT2 (that I won) because I was paralized. The fact that FIGHT2 never stop even after the end of the fight is old news, but here that's pretty boring. I received all the messages: "you are trapped in the aetherium, try again later", "You try to flee etc", or a message in elvish when I tried to close WoS.
NOTE - No need to say tht it never hapened before and that I had already fought those monsters many times and almost certainly got paralyzedin the same scene (very long fight and those monsters like this spell).

OK, it looks like my zlib crisis might be behind me at last. If so, this will be the "Weekend of A87"
Actually, let me freshen the A87 beta... ok, done. You can now try out the GOLDEN MASTER A87 PATCH (you will need, as explained at the top of this post, to reinstall A86, if you have already tried one of the previous A87 patches).
----
Anyway, back to the zlib nightmare. Zlib is an open-license zip compression/decompression library. It doesn't handle 'archives' (having multiple files in a single .zip file), just the nuts and bolts of compression.
Generally you include it in your program by hooking up to a helper DLL called "zlib.dll"
I recently added integrated archive support to Arcadia (so it no longer requires you to install WinZIP) and I planned to do the same thing to WoS.
Unfortunately, including zlib.dll in your installer makes it trigger some virus checkers (stupid virus checkers!) and while I was temporarily willing to let that happen in Arcadia, it seemed like a profoundly bad idea in WoS. (BTW, expect a small Arcadia update as well).
ANYWAY, so the thing to do was compile the zlib source directly into the program, so to speak. That led to a comedy of errors since zlib is 'pure c' and hooking it to multithreaded c++ is, in the end, trivial, but still daunting because WoS is built with a pretty antique copy of MSVC. PLus I deleted some stuff I hadn't properly backed up, etc...
Anyway, thus the nightmare status, and I just never was finding the time to put it right, and was daily forgetting the little things I had done.
ANYWAY(3), I think that's behind me (let me know if this newest A87 doesn't work for you). It's functionally the same as the previous A87, except for the 'option to not let cheat characters in your scene' which I know there are two schools of thought about. Maybe some other stuff.... as you know, it's been simmering a long time and I have forgotten just how much salt I have poured in.
This release does not have as many cool War Guild options as I would have liked, but there is always A88.
Thanks for your continued patience and patronage!

Thats why I make myself a .txt of all the crap I need to do/have done already, and mark it in a way showing i've done/still need to do it. Works wonders.
That, or you could hire a little kid for like 10$ a day to come over and punch you in the face every time you dont do something.

If a87 comes out this weekend, then the resistance can finally launch our contest promoting WoS. I can't wait for a87

- You're suffering from SirMj disorder, take 3 shots of tequila and if the problem persists consider one of the little guys Masa suggested, only be sure to give him a rubber mallet or boxing glove.
Re: The evil that is zlib...Are you using version 1.2.3 which was released mid July? The little research birdie tells me that prior versions had security issues with decoding that resemble what you mentioned.

I knew I should have went with the research fish, unreliable birdies!!

a87 out soon? Then I am pleased to say that the a87 version of Athelias will be available on monday or thuesday - it will include all the new features but the DEFAULT_SKINs, aka: trophies (about 600 trophies already implanted), guild wars system, new PK damage algorithm (and for the first time in WoS: mages that no longer suck), FIGHT coords (I let you discover this in-game: it's completly amazing), and many things I don't remember atm.
[Hopefully you have been actually TESTING with the pre-release A87, so we don't expect any huge surprises in... about.. 30 minutes. -s]

- I believe you have a choice here Mad.....either shush or agree to the phrase that when it comes to world developing "Ich bin ein n00b3r" or continue and nobody will ever take a word you type seriously ever again.
Mages used to own WoS dude....period.

Yeah, but their spells are weak against level 100 monsters.
Dan, here's a link to a WoS installer with Aerianell pre-packaged with it instead of Evergreen. Download size is a bit larger, but it installs at least as fast as the one that has Evergreen. It would be great if you could check it out, tell me if it works or not, and add a link on the download page to it.
I know some newer players probably leave due to players annoying them in Evergreen, and if they started out with a different world instead where the players are a bit nicer, this might not happen.
P.S. Even though it is probably all the birthday tequilla talking, I still Love you!!!

Are you offering to host it for me Mad? Athelias.com is a shorter domain name than worlddeveloper.com, especially if it was just Athelias.com/<folder name>/<download name>
